Mr. Vance Evans, and his beautiful wife, Mrs. Katherine Evans, entered the large and beautifully decorated dining hall. A slight hush fell over the room as the owners of the beautiful resort walked over, and were seated at the best table. Katherine wore a light blue silk dress, accompanied with small blue sandals. Vance wore a long sleeve green blue shirt, and black slacks. The Evans believed in dressing nice for a nice family dinner.
Katherine scooted her chair slightly closer to her husband, Vance.
"I'm so excited to finally have dinner with the children. I feel like I haven't seen them in ages."
Vance smiled at his beautiful wife and put his arm around her shoulders.
"I know. It just seems like yesterday they were so little and we were all together when you and I weren't off on business or trips. But now they have their own things to do."
Katherine leaned into her husband.
"I'm awfully proud of them. I just hope they haven't been fighting as much as they used to. I know if they just give each other a chance, the twins could become very close."

Ryan decided it would be best to go down to dinner without his sister, after all, to all sources the twins were supposedly still at odds with one another and were still on the mend, or at least so they thought.
Ryan straightened his simple white shirt out, trying to straighten the lines running down it, sparkling blue. He nervously flattened his navy pants out, he could feel himself sweating in his black dress shoes. The fedora perched on his head was merely to act as a buffer for when he started blushing madly.
He took one final gulp and walked into the busy dining hall, heading straight for the family's usual table, the one they ate at when the family was together, if not, Ryan prefered to eat anywhere else but in the stuffy room while the guest gawked at them; gawking like they were royalty or maybe zoo animals.
Ryan took the seat equidistant from his mother and father, smiling at both of them in the most genuine way he knew how. "Mom, Dad," He said with a slight nod to both of them.
Shar, come save me

Sharpay was having a hard time picking a dress to wear to the family dinner. It wasn't this hard before, she just throws on the first dress she picked up and then goes down to the dining area. But now, it's not that simple anymore. It was like she was going to...a dinner date.
She finally picked a sparkling green halter dress that reached down to just above her knee. She wore her favorite gold strappy heels, which match the little gold details on her dress. She fixed her long blonde hair in a high ponytail, curling the ends delicately. After putting on the final touch on her make-up, spraying herself with her favorite perfume, and looking herself over in front of the mirror, she sighed contentedly.
She grabbed her golden purse on her way to her bedroom door and went straight down to the dinner area. Once she took a quick peek inside, she saw that their parents are already in the usual table, and so is Ryan. This made her heart beat faster than before.
She took a quick deep breath, putting on her best posture, before entering the dining area, feeling every eyes turn slowly to her. She strutted her way to their table, smiling at her dad, mom and...Ryan.
"Mommy, Daddy!" She gave each of her parents a quick peck on the cheeks. Then she went towards Ryan, an exclusive smile on her face. She bent down and gave him an "innocent" peck on the cheek as well, before sitting down beside him.

Ryan made a mental note to look at her outfit more thoroughly when their parents weren't within mere feet of them, he had to stay focused, nothing could be odd or out of the norm for the typical Evans dinner. When Sharpay kissed his cheek, he acted as surly as ever, his eyes flashing to her lightly.
He would have winked at her, but his mother would notice and assume something was in his eye, she would then alert his father that maybe Ryan was too ill for dinner. By the end of the whole fiasco Ryan would wind up under quarantine for an imaginary eye infection, all from one innocent wink.
Ryan gave his sister the same emotionless nod, letting his hands fall into his lap as he began to wipe his sweaty hands along the perfect creases of navy.
This is going to be a long night

Sharpay kept the same smile on her face, the one that she used to show to her parents. She sat like the Princess she was, placing her purse on the table. She looked down at her lap, then took a side glance towards Ryan. That's when she saw him wiping his hands on his navy.
She bit on her lip, trying to keep herself from giggling. She put on the most calm face she could put on at that moment, as she looked up to their parents. "So...what's the reason for the family dinner?" she asked innocently. "I mean, not that I mind."
She let one hand slid down from her lap to brush against Ryan's under the table. She just couldn't keep her hands off of him, not when they are sitting this close next to each other.

Vance and Katherine smiled lovingly at both of their children. How they had grown into such wonderful young adults. Katherine became a little emotional in realizing her children really were growing up. She reached across the table and took Ryan's hand in one of her hands, and Sharpay's hand in the other.
"Darlings, there is no specific reason for this dinner, except that we wanted to see you both. Family is very important and we want to rekindle back with you both. We know how hard you two have been working all school year, and we're so glad to have you at the resort here with us. Your father and I just wanted to tell you how proud we are of all of your accomplishments."
Katherine pulled her hands away from the twins and almost started to sob, but Vance cleared his throat slightly, signaling his turn to come in, and trying to cut Katherine off before she lost it.
"Ryan, my boy, you are a fine young man, and I know that you will accomplish any goal you have set in your life. You have a good moral drive, and that will take you far."
Katherine sobbed in agreement.
"And my darling princess, Sharpay, you are not only the most beautiful young lady here at the resort, but the most hard-working and dedicated one as well."
Katherine then butted back in.
"We just wanted you both to know how proud we are and that we love you. And we wanted to remind you both of how important family is, by calling this dinner tonight. There is nothing more important than a close relationship with your parents and your siblings to help you become successful in life. We just hope you two know that."
Katherine smiled lovingly at Sharpay and Ryan, and then turned to her husband and kissed him lightly on the cheek. Vance smiled at her, and grasped her hand in his
"So speaking off family and the future success...have you two decided what you might want to do after high school?" Vance questioned his children.

Sharpay cringed at the emotions her mom was showing, but she did feel happy inside, knowing that they still care, or so it seems. So she kept the smile pasted on her face.
When their dad asked "the big question" though, she had almost said, Go to Hawaii with Ryan, making her bit her own tongue.
"Well, of course I'd want to pursue on my, I mean our theater career, only if Ryan is still up for it." Sharpay answered like the good girl she had always been to her parents. "But if not, I might study fashion design, or whatever would make you proud." She smiled sweetly to her parents.
While she was busy answering her father's question though, her hand had already intertwined her fingers with Ryan's.

Ryan fumbled with his water glass slightly, gulping down water in a somewhat nervous fashion. I want to run off with my twin sister, and get married in Hawaii while we change our last name.
"Umm, I haven't given it too much thought," He answered stupidly at first. "I mean, continuing theatre is the original plan, but if that doesn't work I think I..." He cleared his throat gulping down more water. "I think I want to be a writer." He said nervously as he grabbed Sharpay's hand tightly in his looking off out the glass door.
And the bomb drops in 3-2-1

Vance and Katherine nodded as Sharpay gave her respectable answers, but they stopped everything when they heard Ryan speak those last words.
"Wr-writer? Son...you want to be a writer? You have so much talent and so much potential and such presence, and you want to waste it on being a writer? You shine on stage with your sister, and you have such a way with people, and you want to ignore those factors and sit inside all day and write? I can't believe this!"
Vance leaned back in his chair slightly, and rubbed his eyes. He couldn't believe his son wanted to be a writer. Katherine patted him on his knee.
"Now darling, it isn't so bad that Ryan wants to be a writer is it? I mean, like you said he has a lot of potential and maybe he could end up a famous writer and turn the whole world around like that one lady from England did. You know, she wrote those books about that boy and magic? Anyways, I haven't read them but millions of people have!"
Vance put his hands on the table and folded them. He banged them lightly on the table, every so often while he tried to make his point clear.
"Dear, Ryan could have such a better career than that. I mean, I could take him under my wing and he could come work for me and my company. He could take my place as the president! Wouldn't you like that, son? You could come to work with me, and meet all the people you can work over, and see what I do. You might really like it!"
Katherine sighed, and picked up her glass of wine. She took a few large sips, and set it down. She didn't say anything against her husband, but she smiled gently at Ryan, and took his hand in her's, as if to say "Don't worry darling. It will all work out."
Vance looked at Sharpay, and then at Ryan.
"Son, you could chose a better career like Sharpay wants. I always thought you two would be better working together in the theater or something. Not being alone, writing all day. I just want to see you happy, and doing something that really makes you shine."
Vance looked at Ryan, and just shook his head slightly, trying to hide his disappointment.

Ryan continued to look off, jumping ever so slightly when his father banged on the table, he knew that his dad was mad at him, but it wasn't really for the reason he had originally suspected. His dad didn't want him locked away by himself in a room, was that what he thought of writers. Ryan didn't want a suit and tie job, he didn't want to be the next Vance Evans.
Ryan's heart sunk slightly, he couldn't help but feel as if he'd killed the potential of having a normal family dinner for once. "Dad," He started, but then he couldn't finish, knowing there was nothing he could say right now that would make his parents understand; nothing was etched in stone yet, he still had time.

Sharpay's smile faded as soon as she saw their parents' reaction. She has always been the favorite child, but she doesn't want Ryan to feel like this, even if she loves the extra attention. She squeezed his hand back under the table, trying hard not to cry.
"Dad, I think being a writer is not a bad idea..." Sharpay started, hoping her opinions would change their parents' mind. "I mean, almost all great ideas come from good writers anyway." She said, shrugging her shoulders for the added effect. "Your job even requires a good writing skill too, right? Or well, even if you have a secretary to write stuffs for you, still, if it wasn't for the secretary's good writing skills, you wouldn't be this successful."
Sharpay hoped she did not sound like a blabbering girl that doesn't make sense. She somehow hoped that their favoritism might come in handy in this situation.

Vance sighed as Sharpay struggled to make her points.
"You just don't understand sweetie. I'm just trying to help Ryan out, and make him see that he has so much ahead of him, and how great he would do in business, or at least theater. Something that might have a steady flow of income, besides writing. I just want to see him succeed."
Vance looked at Katherine as if to say "What now?" Katherine looked from Sharpay to Ryan, and back to her husband. She didn't know how to fix this, and make this a pleasant dinner. Her stomach ached a little in nervousness and hoped that this conflict that happened tonight wouldn't continue after they all left the dinner table later that evening.
Katherine then turned to her husband.
"Darling, I think Ryan will succeed in whatever he chooses to do. He's a bright boy, and he will find his nitch, wherever it may be."
Vance started to say something back, but was interrupted by Katherine, who lifted her arms up slightly and said loudly to cover over Vance's voice.
"So, who's hungry? Let's order, shall we?"
Katherine motioned for a waiter to come over and take their orders, in hopes of changing the subject and finding something much more pleasant to talk about.

Sharpay nodded at her mother, as she glanced at Ryan. She felt like she needed to talk to him, and now, to reassure him that he can do whatever he wants to do.
"I'll just be going for a quick trip to the ladies' room." Sharpay smiled at her parents, as she tugged on Ryan's hand, as if to say Let's go, follow me.
She stood up and went towards the direction of the comfort rooms, after taking one quick glance at Ryan.

Ryan let go of Sharpay's hand, he knew what that tug meant, it was just a matter of perfect timing. He watched Sharpay leave, he had it down to an exact science, as soon as Sharpay was out of sight, he started counting in his head. Thirty seconds he had discovered was the magic number, they'd snuck away from dinner before, this was business as usual.
He smiled weakly at his parents, still unable to find his voice quite yet, he was going to make them proud, he just wasn't sure how yet. At 20 seconds, Ryan made a play to start fiddling with his knife, his parents would forget the last time this happened he sliced his finger and had to leave to clean it up, in fear of alarming staff and guests.
At 25 seconds, he started the acting. "Ah, ouch," He mumbled softy, holding his finger in a way someone would if they were bleeding. "Excuse me, Mom, Dad, I'll be back, cut my finger." He said feigning a sigh, and letting on a slight laugh. To them he was Ryan, the klutz. He strode from the table quickly, knowing their eyes wouldn't follow him, and out of the room to find Sharpay.

Sharpay had slipped out of her parent's view just outside the dining area, and as soon as she saw Ryan out at the hallway as well, she grabbed his arm and dragged him to a nearby empty room. Since it was dark, she couldn't tell which room is it, but it doesn't matter right now.
"I hate it." She said softly, pertaining to the family dinner. "It always ends up this way."
Her hands found his, squeezing them tightly.
"Trust me, Ry. I don't want to be the favorite all the time." She shook her head, even if she knew he wouldn't even see it.
