Bebe stared at the television screen, the images before it flickering off of her eyes. Homework was piled to the side of her bed, finished and waiting to be cracked open again the next day. Bebe turned over in her bed, careful not to apply any pressure to her mutilated right arm. Fortunately, Bebe was left-handed, so the stab wound wouldn't impede her progress in schoolwork. But it was a nightmare trying to eat anything that required cutting, and forget playing with the Wii downstairs.
Bebe had been relegated to her bedroom, that of the purple walls and crazy knicknacks. The fridge next to her bed was closed, but the freezer atop had been opened, as evidenced by the random ice cream container sitting, askew, within its confines. Bebe shut it with a quick flick of her left arm, readjusting herself to do so.
The yakuza recalled what had happened after she fainted at the Evans' house, as Ryan had told her: Sharpay called the ambulance, and they tried to explain that Bebe had come to them in a panic. The authorities took the story, because it was obvious by Bebe's rain-soaked clothing and clotting blood that she hadn't been freshly stabbed. Besides, Bebe herself had the weapon. As soon as the name Tenko was mentioned, Ryan had added rather confusedly, the nurses understood.
Bebe knew that was because of the yakuza connections. As she dug into a bit of ice cream sandwich-flavored ice cream, she returned her focus away from her starry blue bedspread and to the movie she was watching.
"Divorce, bankrupt, suicide?!" the angst-ridden, black-haired, gangly teen screamed at his mother, pointing to her, his stepfather, and his uncle in turn. Bebe hated this scene, yet she loved it, because Paul Dano was so amazing at playing Dwayne. "You f***ing LOSERS!"
She sighed. She felt just as hopeless as Dwayne in 'Little Miss Sunshine'. What was she going to do? She couldn't tell anyone about what happened - they all assumed she was a casualty in a gang war she had no control over, and therefore didn't ask questions. Her father wanted her to take up self-defense again, when it was clear to Bebe that Marco would've killed her if she resisted any more. Her mother wanted her to settle down, which would be impossible.
A knock sounded at Bebe's bedroom door.
"I hate you f***ing people!"
Bebe's mother, Hyuuga, opened the door just as Paul let out the f-word again. Hyuuga looked angrily at the screen, her mauve-brown hair flipping around her face. She was a very professional, beautiful woman, with a sleek bob and narrow hawk eyes.
"Why do you watch this movie so much?" Hyuuga asked exasperatedly.
Bebe shrugged. "It makes me feel better."
"Be-chan, I just want you to know that I don't blame you," Hyuuga began - again. Bebe would've rolled her eyes, but then she wouldn't see Paul throw a rock off-screen.
"...I know, Oto-san," Bebe nodded. "But I'm telling you, I don't think that it was a rival yakuza."
"I know that, and you know that, but your father is so stubborn..." Hyuuga seethed before walking out of the room again, hitting a stack of manga with her foot. It shook precariously. "Have you talked to Mr. Danforth lately?"
Bebe felt a pang in her chest. "Not since yesterday at school. He doesn't know."
"Who was that other...?"
"Ryan Evans. Miss Sharpay's brother? The one who played Romeo in Romeo and Juliet."
"Oh, I remember him," Hyuuga nodded. "Well, if anyone comes, I'll make sure you see them. And if they ask..."
"I can't tell," Bebe nodded before the door closed. The teen sighed, eating the last of the ice cream. Her mom was nice, but sometimes Bebe felt there was a gap between the two. Staring at the white ceiling, she frowned.
"...Let's go, Olive."
Paul turned around, showing off his legs and... lower backside. Bebe turned bright red.
Okay, so there was only one guy she'd ever leave Chad for. And it wasn't Jacob.
