Sharpay was glad her father hasn't forgotten her name, yet. She smiled sweetly at the group of men he had introduced her to.
"Oh, dad!" She waved her hand as if to tell them he was kidding about what he said about her, and that she was embarrassed. She had been acting like that for years in front of their parents' friends, it was pretty convincing.
"Anyway, dad...mom." She said, pointing at their mother. "She had actually invited me and Ryan to drink." She whispered this part, not wanting to embarrass her father as well.

Vance smiled proudly at his daughter and her modest ways in handling his friends. 'Now Sharpay should be the one to go into business. She could make anyone do anything.' Vance thought.
Vance realized what his daughter was saying and looked over at Katherine swaying heavily in her chair. He couldn't escape the fact that the Evans rarely had a normal dinner without some fight, fiasco, or drunken stupor. Vance sighed, and smiled slightly at Sharpay.
"I'll handle it darling." he whispered. Vance turned to his friends and announced his departure. He walked back to the table and approached his wife, just shaking his head at her.
"Katherine, did you really offer wine to the children?" Vance asked.
Katherine finally seemed to snap out of her state, when she realized her husband was back. She practically jumped out her seat, and put her arms around his neck.
"Oh darling you're back!" Katherine kissed Vance lightly. "And yes, I did offer the children wine, but they didn't take it. What kind of teenagers turn down drinks? Really darling, have we raised children that aren't willing to have fun?"
Vance placed his arm around Katherine's waist to stabilize her on her feet. "Darling, we raised smart children to not drink when it's not a proper time, like when their dear mother is drunk enough for them."
Vance turned to his children. "I'm sorry you two, but we will have to reschedule this dinner for another night. I need to take care of your mother. Who knows what kind of hangover she will have tomorrow. If you two get hungry later, just call the kitchen to make you something. I hate to dash out on you both, but..." Vance just looked at Katherine barely able to stand in his arms.
"And I'm proud of you both for not drinking the wine. Maybe sometime we can enjoy a single glass each as a family." Vance said, mainly saying it for Katherine.
Vance and Katherine Evans headed to door, as Katherine sang loudly, while Vance tried to shush her. It wasn't a glamorous exit, like their entrance had been, but Vance pushed Katherine to walk and headed to their private room.

Once his parents were out of sight, Ryan clapped both hands to his mouth to keep from laughing out loud, he was trying to calculate in his head how many glasses of wine his mother had drank and the only number he could come to was trashed. He couldn't help but chuckle at how different his parents were and yet they could love each other so much.
"So," Ryan said, plucking a roll out of the bread basket and tearing a piece off. "I'd say that was an- astonishing sucess." He added sarcastically, trying not to choke on his roll.

Sharpay laughed at what Ryan had said. "True." She agreed, stealing the piece of bread from him. She tore a piece and popped it in her mouth. Now, this is so much better. Having an intimate dinner with her special someone. Dinner has officially started. She winked at him, hoping the other guests would just mind their own businesses.

Ryan smiled at Sharpay and returned her wink lightly, looking at the table thoughtfully. He loved his parents, he really did, but sometimes they could be too embarassing to handle.
Ryan reached out and stole the remainder of his glass of water from Sharpay, tipping it back into his mouth, all of his laughing had made him thirsty. "I really hope we don't wind up like that someday." Ryan said with a laugh as he eyed his parents' empty spaces and his mother's empty class of wine.

Sharpay looked at the empty seats and shook her head. She won't admit it, but she does missed her parents' presence. But only slightly. She was more relieved when they finally left.
She shook head at Ryan, grinning. "Trust me, one of us has surely inherited the alcohol intolerance." She said, laughing. "I wonder who's the lucky one?" She chuckled at the thought of one of them ending up like their mother.

Ryan furrowed his brow lightly, he tried not to laugh as he imagined one of them behaving like their mother later in life. Ryan's brow furrowed further, the thought was cropping up again, increasingly he was having thoughts how they'd be as adults, he had started having dreams a few nights ago about how they'd be together as adults.
He looked over at Sharpay and laughed. "It might be easier if you were like mom, you're smaller, I could certainly drag you off a table if needed." He said laughing slightly. He looked out over the empty glasses, slowly coming to a realization. "Oh god, what if we're both like mom?" He mused, hoping there wasn't a possibility to that, but with them, anything was possible.

Sharpay's eyes widened at the same thought. "Oh god Ry! Don't say that!" She smacked him on the arm, obviously scared of that thought.
"You know there's only one way to find out about it, and we're gonna do it on our 18th birthday." She said, thinking. She looked at Ryan, her eyebrows raised slightly. "We're gonna do it one by one. You drink first...and then I do." She wrote the plan with her finger on the table.
She inwardly hoped that she was the one who had inherited that trait...it would be a good excuse to be in Ryan's arms, especially if they're out with their friends. She smiled at the thought.

Ryan chuckled slightly at the plan, it was seemingly flawless. "I see how it is, make me drink first," He said nudging her lightly with his elbow. "the only problem with that is it might be hard for me to control you like dad did with mom if we're both drunk." He said laughing lightly. He was aprehensive about drinking, but then again, if he was going to be drunk, there was no one he'd rather be drunk with than the girl beside him.
He looked at the two glasses of wine in front of him and smirked lightly. "So I'm going to make the assumption that we're going to behave until we're 18 then." He said smiling as he nodded to their glasses of wine, placing his forgotten fedora back on his head.

Sharpay grabbed his hand, smiling as she nodded. "After all, our parents had raised such perfectly behaved kids." She said, grinning as her leg once again brushed against his.
She took a glance at the glasses of wine, grinning. "See you next year." She said to the glasses, waving lightly at them. She turned back to Ryan, giggling.

Ryan smirked at Sharpay lightly, he whispered low on the table, so that only she could hear what he had to say. "If our parents raised such perfectly behaved kids, then why did we sneak off in the middle of dinner to go make out in a closet?" He asked with a laugh.
He however nodded in agreement at the glasses of wine, when they decided something like that was in the cards for them they would do it together because they wanted to, not because of the convenience of the moment or circumstance.

Sharpay grinned at the question. "Because," she started, with her foot going up his leg again, "they didn't know they had raised such a perfect couple as well." She whispered back to him, raising her eyebrows flirtatiously, giggling lightly.

Ryan looked at Sharpay, the happy glaze filling his eyes again as small, mostly unoticeable smirk started to tug on his placid face. He was now using every part of his body to keep himself from leaning forward and kissing her in public. He instead opted out to place one of his hands on her thigh, slower than before so that she wouldn't jump under his touch, they were becoming true proffessionals. "I don't know if they'd be so proud of that fact." He said in a low joking whisper, he could imagine the amount of shame it would bring to them; he wasn't sure if he hated or relished that thought.

Sharpay bit on her lower lip when Ryan placed his hand slowly on her thigh. She was glad she didn't jump or squeal or make a loud noise this time. Instead, she looked at him with her eyebrows raised playfully. "Who cares?" She asked with a grin, slowly moving her seat closer to his, her foot kept on brushing his legs in the process.

Ryan couldn't help but smile as she moved closer to him, and even though they were in a very public setting he couldn't help but think they were getting away with the grandest scheme of all time. They would sit there and play the part of brother and sister on the mend to the unnoticing eyes, but to them, they were oh so much more. He clenched his other hand into a fist, the urge to hold her free hand starting to push its way to the front of his brain.
"I don't think I'm hungry anymore." He mumbled into a smile, looking at her with raised eyebrows.
